Teaching Philosophy

Students need to be actively engaged in instruction that has meaning. If children can relate the instruction to their real-life experiences than they are more likely to find meaning in the instruction. They also need to be actively engaged in their learning instead of passively taking in information. Students need to be given opportunities to work cooperatively with other students. They need to be given the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussion and inquiry. Students also need to be given differentiated instruction to tailor to their individual needs. This instruction would involve both remediation and enrichment as well as any accommodations needed.

The classroom environment should create a positive and accepting experience for all members. Students should be taught to be accepting of diversity. The classroom teacher should ensure that all students feel safe and respected. There should be open communication between members of the classroom so that students feel comfortable with their opinions.
