Technology – Student Learning. Candidates use technology and technology based resources to facilitate developmentally appropriate student learning.

Supporting Explanation

Candidates use technology resources to guide classroom decisions regarding student learning. They integrate instructional technology to facilitate interdisciplinary teaching and learning in their classrooms, to supplement instructional strategies, to design instructional materials, and to enhance hands-on experiences and problem solving activities. Candidates select and use grade-level and content-specific technology resources, including assistive technology, to increase student participation in the total curriculum. They apply technology to analyze assessment data and to target individual student learning needs.

So What? (Reflection)

The world that we live in is becoming increasingly technological. Children are involving in more activities involving technology and technology is becoming increasing abundant in all areas. Because of this, it is important for teachers to incorporate technology into their instruction. This incorporation not only enhances the the learning of students but it also prepares them for a technological society. The Earth and Space Google site integrates technology to help fulfill the third grade standard of Earth and its place in the universe. This site incorporates many technology resourses to help enhance the learning of the standard and to increase the participation from the students. Students can interact with online videos, pictures, gadgets, websites, and discussion boards. The DRL has a Webquest lesson where students use internet resources to go on a scavenger hunt for facts about Washington and Lincoln.

Now What? (Direction)

By creating technology resources of my own and finding other resources made by others which help to enhance intruction, I have learned that technology is an important component in the classroom. It is important for me to continue to create student experiences that allow them to be engaged with technology. This engagement will create an enhanced learning experience and help them to develop technology literacy. I also know that as an elementary teacher, I am going to have students with varying levels of technological ability. It will be important to scaffold the children as necessary to ensure their success with the technology resources.
